3-Ellis Tuesday, November 7th
Hi families! welcome to winter. Remember to dress for the weather! We are wolves, and we almost always go outside for recess and DPA, even when it's cold! Bundle up.
In Science, review with your child the meaning of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks and what makes each one unique. Kids should now also understand what a rock is (usually a mixture of minerals) and what a mineral is (a pure substance that can't be separated out any further).
In SS, please make sure your child has picked a country to do some research on. If they can print some of it up OR bring a book to school that would be great. We will begin this project tomorrow. Each student is to create a small poster of their chosen country. The small poster could be divided into quadrants (we know what that is, right?) with the flag in the centre. Quadrants could be divided up into Basic Facts (location, population, language, area, government style etc); Famous For (what is this country known for); Major Cities, and Geography. We will begin at school with these posters tomorrow but please expect them to possibly come home to be finished off (with perhaps some parental guidance and help....all though certainly not an expectation).
Literacy; finishing off our Novel Study and working on Word List #7.
Math; we marked our Place Value Quiz today. Everyone did quite well. We will move on to patterning. We are also working on some basic algebra in our Daily Math which requires us to remember our number families. We have been solving equations such as 7 + _ = 15. If we know our number families, we should be able to flip that into a subtraction equation to find the right answer.
Wednesday and Thursday we will host Parent-Teacher-Student Conference. Please sign up for a 15 minute time slot if you haven't already done so, if you wish to chat with me around your son's / daughter's learning. If these days aren't convenient for you, let me know and we can easily arrange a different time.
You are welcome to attend our Remembrance Day Service at Westmount School on November 9, as follows:
- 9:00am K to Gr. 5
- 10:00am Gr.6 to Gr.9
We will have a guest speaker, laying of wreaths and music provided by our band students.

Leadership Students are organizing the Second Annual Holiday Craft Fair at Westmount School on December 5 from 1-4:00 p.m. More details to follow.
Have a great evening. See you tomorrow!
