5N- Halloween, Unit Tests and Conferences!

Hello 5N Families,

We will be having our first math unit test on Monday, November 6th for Place Value. We have been working hard at understanding, representing and using numbers to 1 000 000 and are looking forward to showing what we know! Students will be asked to write numbers in standard form, expanded form and word form as well as round numbers and work on problems requiring application of these skills to real-world situations like finances and popuations.

Conferences are happening next week on Wednesday and Thursday evening, November 8th and 9th from 4-8pm. If you have not already done so, please make sure you sign up for a 15 minute block so we can show you what we've been up to over the last two months!

We now have homework folders that should be coming home regularly and need to be returned to school every day in case we have information or work to put inside. Students should be reading books of interest every day at home to continue to grow as readers. When math assignments and other work is not finished in the time given in class, students will bring it home in their homework folder to finish at home. Please support your child in being responsible for the work they need to have compelted.

Winter has arrived in Alberta! Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather before they come to school in the morning. We will be outside most days for recess and luch throughout the winter season. We have seen many students coming in hoodies and without gloves, touques etc. and 30 minutes outside at lunchtime is a very long time to be outside in inappropriate attire! That being said, on extremely cold days like today students may be kept in for recess and lunch to ensure everyone's health and safety.

Stay warm this weekend!
