Okotoks Youth-Out Of School Activities and Bussing
Free afterschool activities and bussing to Recreation Centre for south Okotoks youth
The Town of Okotoks is launching a new pilot program beginning Monday, September 16 to address the need for afterschool options and transportation for youth living on the south side of town.
“After recent public feedback, the Town created the Okotoks Youth-Out of School program which provides one-way bussing and after school activities for grade 7-9 students attending school on the south side,” said Youth Social Development Specialist, Carey Gruber. “The free bussing provides an easy way for them to get to the Rec Centre – and the youth open gym has been hugely popular on Mondays and Thursdays!”
Youth can catch the bus to the Okotoks Recreation Centre to play sports in the gym between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. This pilot program provides the opportunity for youth to engage in a safe, supervised and healthy afterschool activity, at no cost.
The one-way bus service picks up at St. John Paul II Collegiate first (approximately 3:45pm) followed by Westmount School (approximately 3:50pm) on Mondays and Thursdays (no service on holiday Mondays.) The bus will be identified with Okotoks Youth-Out of School signage, and youth must arrange transportation home.
During the month of December, the Town will assess the usage and make a decision as to whether or not this program will continue in the future.
